INTRODUCTION
This is an arcade strategy game, written by the same author as the earlier
puzzle game releases, Brainbow and Revolver.
In it, you play an explorer who has just stumbled upon an unknown tribe's
diamond hoard. The diamonds are kept in pits which are essentially pools
of water with grids of stone tiles placed just above the surface, on top
of which are placed the diamonds and also some dark-coloured balls.
As soon as you step into the first pit, you face lots of hazards.
HAZARDS
The red-hot arrows fired by the hostile natives, trying to stop you from
taking their precious diamonds.
The switched sinking stone tiles which disappear underwater as soon as
you step off them, leaving an impassable water trail.
The blue and purple balls which are mines, and which cost you points, the
purple more than the blue.
OBJECTIVE
The objective of the game is to collect all the pink diamonds in each
level pit, making you move onto the next pit, and to see how far you can
get before all your lives are used up.
MOVES
Every moving object on the screen shifts in moves, which are made when you
click in one of the eight directions around your green arrow
representation. The direction of movement is indicated by a glowing arrow
icon over the tile you will move onto when the left mouse button is
pressed. If you click on the character itself, it will remain on the
current tile.
CONDITIONS
You start with three lives, one of which is lost when any of the hazards
described above are hit.
There is a time limit for each pit, becoming stricter with each selected
difficulty, and you will lose a life if all the diamonds aren't collected
in time.
The number of arrows, mines and diamonds increases with later levels.
The available time and bonus of each level also increases with later
levels.
FEATURES
There is a Bonus Level every sixth level, giving you a chance to gather a
lot of bonus points and also to gain an extra life.
The start level and difficulty of each game can be set from the title
screen.
BONUS LEVELS
Every Bonus Level is signified by reddish stone tiles, and contains more
arrows and extra time than usual. The number of other items though, remains
consistent with the level number.
The Bonus Levels are played out like the normal levels, except that you
will not lose a life or stay on the Bonus Level if you are killed on it.
If you win the Bonus Level, you will get five times the usual level bonus
added to your score and an extra life, as well as the usual level points.
TACTICS
It is easy to avoid the mines, but to stay alive against the arrows it is
best to watch how they move, try to predict where they'll move on your
next move, and thus avoid them by moving to a different tile or staying
still for the move.
It is best to be especially wary towards the edges of the pits, because
that is where all the arrows appear from.
On the later levels, it might be best to quickly plan an escape route,
because otherwise you might become trapped by arrows, mines or water, or
perhaps even cut yourself off from some remaining diamonds.
FINAL NOTE
I hope you enjoy playing Dangerous Natives as I did writing it. Happy
diamond collecting!
